One of my favorite artists is Francoise Gilot. She was Picasso’s lover and muse (as well as mother to his children), but her place in art history will certainly immortalize her asan accomplished modern master.
Gilot was born in France in 1921. As a child, she loved art, and this passion never wavered. After completing a degree in English literature at Cambridge, Gilot abandoned her studies and pursued art as a career. At 21, Gilot met Picasso and became his mistress. They spent 10 years together, and many people believe that Gilot's involvement with Picasso is what cut short her own artistic career.
From abstracts to figures; from party scenes to soulful figures—her work is timeless. She will be featured at the Mann Gallery March 28. I’m just so sorry I can’t attend. I’m saving my pennies for one of her great works and for a trip to see her at her next appearance.
